Lazio visits Eurostar

Representatives from the S.S. Lazio youth academy in Rome, Italy travelled to London, Ontario on June 19th to spend a week with the Eurostar program.

 

Participating in this visit was academy coach Mr. Mauro Girini, and new senior Lazio consultant, Mr. Joop Lensen. The week kicked off with a Father’s Day banquet for Eurostar members where the Lazio coaches participated in the presentation of awards to Eurostar players. During their time with Eurostar, the guest coaches attended SAAC league games in London, participated in training sessions, facilitated a coaching clinic, provided a lecture presentation to senior players, and consulted with our management team on our development program.

Mr Lensen is no stranger to football in Europe. He has spent many years with the KNVB academy programs and has been a consultant to many organizations including AJAX and Fenerbache. Eurostar director, Luka Shaqiri, worked closely with Mr Lensen to review our continuing relationship including:

  • Eurostar is confirmed as the first fully affiliated international Lazio academy
  • Lazio is implementing wide scale changes to their youth program and will be sharing this program with Eurostar to roll out here in phases over the next few years
  • Lazio has re-affirmed commitment to support Eurostar player trials in Rome

We look forward to continuing to build and enhance our relationship with the Lazio organization in the months and years to ahead.
